Manage Ingredient Locations
To keep your inventory accurate, link each ingredient to at least one storage location, such as a lot, bay, or silage pile. As your needs change, you can easily move ingredients between locations or add them to multiple spots on the dairy. By enabling tracking for a location, you allow FeedComp to monitor your stock levels in real-time so you always know what you have on hand.
Assign an Ingredient to a Location
Assigning an ingredient to a location tells FeedComp where the feed component is stored and allows you to set location-specific values for DM%, cost, and on-hand amount.
From PULSE on the Web
- Navigate to the Ingredients page.
- Select the name of the ingredient in the table list or the Details link on the ingredient's card. The ingredient details page opens.
- Select Edit Ingredient at the top right of the page. The Edit Ingredient side panel opens.
- Select Add Location and select a location.
- Enter the DM% and AF Cost, then select Unit or Ton.
- Select the Track this Location toggle to begin tracking inventory at this location.
- In On-Hand Amount, enter the current quantity available, then select Unit or Ton.
- Select Save.
From the Mobile App
- Tap the ingredient you want to update.
- Tap Edit Ingredient at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap + Assign/Edit Location in the middle of the screen.
- Select the location, select Unit or Ton, enter the DM% and Cost Unit or Cost Ton, then tap Save at the bottom of the screen.
Remove an Ingredient from a Location
Removing an ingredient from a location disassociates it from that storage area. The ingredient itself is not deleted and can still be assigned to other locations.
From PULSE on the Web:
- Navigate to the Ingredients page.
- Select the name of the ingredient in the table list or the Details link on the ingredient's card. The ingredient details page opens.
- Select Edit Ingredient at the top right of the page. The Edit Ingredient side panel opens. All locations associated with the ingredient are displayed under Locations.
- Select the delete icon on the right side of the location to remove it.
🗒️ NOTE: A blue delete icon indicates that the ingredient location is currently used in a recipe or premix and cannot be removed.
Transfer an Ingredient to a New Location
Transferring moves an ingredient's inventory from one location to another. In PULSE, this is done from the Settings>Location page. On the mobile app, it's done from the Ingredients screen.
From PULSE on the Web
- Select the location from which the ingredient needs to be moved. The location side panel opens, and all ingredients associated with the location are displayed under Ingredients.
- Check the box for one or more ingredients to transfer. Or, check the Ingredient Name box to select all ingredients.
- Click Transfer Ingredient(s)
. The Edit Ingredients side panel opens.
- Select the new location, and then click Save.
From the Mobile App
- Tap the ingredient you want to transfer.
- Tap Edit Ingredient at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap + Assign/Edit Location.
- Select the new location, select Unit or Ton, enter the DM% and Cost Unit or Cost Ton, then tap Save at the bottom of the screen.
Enable or Disable Tracking at a Location
Enabling tracking at a location activates ongoing inventory monitoring for that ingredient. Once tracking is enabled, FeedComp continuously updates stock levels based on recipe usage and manual adjustments.
From PULSE on the Web
- Navigate to the Ingredients page.
- Select the name of the ingredient in the table list or the Details link on the ingredient's card. The ingredient details page opens.
- Select Edit Ingredient at the top right of the page. The Edit Ingredient side panel opens.
- Select the Track this Location toggle to enable or disable tracking.
- If enabling tracking, enter the On-Hand Amount and select Unit or Ton.
- Select Save.
🗒️ NOTE: FeedComp adds a new Adjustment transaction to the Transactions page when tracking is toggled on or off, or when the On-Hand Amount, DM%, or AF Cost is updated after tracking is enabled.
Important Considerations
Keep the following points in mind when managing ingredient locations:
- Each ingredient must be assigned to at least one location. Make sure your Locations are set up before adding ingredients.
