Feeding Essentials walks you through the core setup required to feed your animals with FeedComp. Complete these steps before entering feedings in the mobile app or PULSE. Most farms complete this setup once, then maintain it as feeding needs change.

NOTE: These settings are required for FeedComp to function correctly, but they are typically configured by VAS Support or a VAR during onboarding, based on the Feed Data Sheet—not during day‑of installation. They are presented here for reference in case users need to review, add, or modify any of the settings described in this section.

Set Up Feeding (Required Before You Feed)

To get up and running quickly, complete these tasks in the following order:

Add Pens: Organize animals into feeding groups to ensure each group receives the correct ration.

Create Locations: Select where feed ingredients are stored on the dairy, such as lots, bays, or silage piles. In FeedComp, each ingredient is associated with a location

Create IngredientsIngredients: Define the raw components (silage, hay, grain, etc.) used in your recipes.

Create Recipes: List the ingredients and amounts needed for each pen, including any premixes.

Set Up InventoryInventory: Set up tracking for on-hand feed to manage usage and reorders.

Add Equipment: Add the mixers and scales used to prepare feedings in FeedComp.

Add VendorsVendors: Link your feed suppliers to specific ingredients to keep sourcing organized.
