The gray boxes at the top of the page summarize your herd's reproduction data based on your selected 

: The minimum number of days after calving before a cow is eligible for insemination.

: Your herd's overall pregnancy risk, displayed as a percentage. A higher pregnancy risk indicates a more efficient breeding program. PULSE includes the statistics displayed in the gray box to calculate your herd's overall pregnancy risk. In the example above, the pregnancy risk is 28%. This means that, on average, 28% of the eligible cows actually became pregnant in a 21-day cycle.

: The breeding-eligible-animals that were actually inseminated during a 21-day cycle, displayed as a percentage.

The number of animals currently pregnant.

 The number of animals entering the 21-day interval that are eligible to become pregnant.

: The number of animals entering the 21-day interval that are eligible to be inseminated. An eligible animal is defined as having passed the voluntary waiting period, is not currently pregnant, and is active in the reproductive program.

Tell me more about Bred Eligible and Preg Eligible!

Animals that were present for at least half of the 21-day cycle (11 days) are considered bred eligible. Bred eligible animals are then considered preg eligible following the 21-day cycle as long as the breeding result is not set or remains unknown. If a bred animal is culled from the herd during the preg eligible period, she is included in the bred eligible total but not in the preg eligible total. Therefore, the preg eligible total is always the same as or less than the bred eligible total.

: Each reference is color-coded to match a specific bar or line on the graph.

The black "wick" represents a 95% confidence interval (CI) for the pregnancy risk shown by the bar. For instance, if the wick reflects a 95% CI of 27-35, you can be 95% confident in a pregnancy risk between 27%-35%.

If there is not enough data to calculate a 95th percentile confidence interval, the 

 icon is displayed in the table below the graph.

Vet Code 6 = ABT? Often if a dairy sees a pregnant animal showing signs of heat they may breed her. When this breeding is entered in DairyComp the animal remains pregnant, but this flag is set so that the veterinarian can determine if she is still pregnant to the original breeding or if she has aborted and is now just another "bred status" cow.

Mastitis is the persistent, inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to physical trauma or infection. Symptoms of mastitis include udder swelling, heat, hardness, redness, or pain. The milk may have a watery appearance, flakes, clots, or pus.

Metritis is inflammation of the wall of the uterus, and usually occurs within days of calving. Symptoms of metritis are an enlarged uterus and a foul-smelling uterine discharge.

Ketosis is a common ailment that usually occurs in early lactation, when the energy demands of milk production are very high and the cow metabolizes fat stores for energy. Symptoms of ketosis may include reduced milk yield, weight loss, reduced appetite, acetone smell of breath and/or milk, and fever.

Milk fever is a disease characterized by reduced blood calcium levels. It occurs in early lactation, when demand for calcium for colostrum and milk production exceeds the cow's ability to mobilize calcium. "Fever" is a misnomer, as body temperature during the disease is generally not elevated. Milk fever symptoms include tremor in the muscles of the head and limbs until falling to a "sitting" position. Once down, cows may have a dry muzzle, staring eyes, cold legs and ears, constipation, and drowsiness.

Displaced abomasum in cattle occurs when the abomasum, also known as the true stomach, which typically resides on the floor of the abdomen, fills with gas and rises to the top of the abdomen, where it is said to be "displaced". Symptoms may include reduced appetite, lower milk yield, reduced rumination, and a distended abdomen.
