Troubleshoot Stall Reversal Errors in ParlorBoss
Question: Why is ParlorBoss showing a "Reinitializing Parlor" error or misassigning cows after my rotary moves backward?
Answer: On rotary parlors, the platform may occasionally move backward (in reverse). ParlorBoss can detect and automatically correct stall reversals of up to 7 stalls, keeping stall numbering and cow assignments accurate without any action from the operator. Once the platform moves forward again, everything lines back up on its own.
If the rotary reverses more than 7 stalls, ParlorBoss displays an error because it can no longer guarantee accurate stall tracking. Below is what you'll see and how to respond.

During a Reversal (7 stalls or fewer)
When ParlorBoss detects the rotary moving backward, it displays a warning banner on screen indicating that the rotary is in reverse. No action is needed — ParlorBoss automatically re-aligns stall positions once forward movement resumes. Stall numbering and cow assignments remain accurate.
When a Reversal Exceeds 7 Stalls
If the rotary reverses more than 7 stalls, ParlorBoss displays a "Reinitializing Parlor" error dialog:
ParlorBoss detected Exceeded Reversals. Click Ok Button when are you are ready to continue working.
The error is also logged in the ParlorBoss log panel with a red ERROR entry:
Reversal exceeds supported stall range. Deleting elements in the queue and restarting process.
To resolve this:
- Ensure the rotary has stopped reversing and is ready to resume normal forward operation.
- Select Continue (or OK) on the error dialog.
- ParlorBoss will restart the scanners and resume cow scanning and stall assignment from the current position. Any stalls that were queued during the reversal will be picked up automatically.
Important Considerations
- No configuration is needed — reversal detection is always active on rotary parlors.
- Reversal events are recorded in the ParlorBoss logs. Yellow warning entries show each reversal step detected; red errors display when the 7-stall limit is exceeded.
- This behavior applies consistently across all rotary parlor types: Agrident, Nedap, and GEA.
