🗒️ **NOTE:** See [Mobile Device Requirements](docId:-Mh9iSHgfy4zs45VGIeg-) for a list of recommended devices to use with FeedComp.
:::

FeedComp uses Bluetooth to connect devices in two different ways, depending on the feature you're setting up. Understanding the difference helps you follow the correct setup steps and avoid connection issues.

## Pairing for Scale Connection (Scale to App)

Scale Connection pairs a **physical scale** to the FeedComp app on your mobile device via Bluetooth. This is how the app receives real-time weight data during feedings.

⚠️** IMPORTANT: Android Permission Setup**

Android manages Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) scanning under Location permissions. To ensure reliable discovery and automatic reconnection:

- Go to Android **Settings > Apps > FeedComp > Permissions > Location**.
- Set permission to **Allow only while using the app** (or **Allow all the time**). *Do not select "Allow once" or "Ask every time."*
- Toggle **Use precise location** to **ON**.
- Return to the FeedComp App Info screen and toggle **Remove permissions if app is unused** (or **Pause app activity if unused**) to **OFF**.

⚠️ **IMPORTANT (Android Permission Setup):**

### Scale Pairing Guidelines by Model

- **Scale-Tec POINT:**
 - Configure the scale's display settings in the Scale-Tec POINT app, then connect to the scale in FeedComp under **Settings** > **Connect to Scale**.
 - POINT scales support multiple active connections and continue advertising automatically.
- **Topcon Digi-Star:**
 - **Single Device Connection:** Topcon scales only support **one active Bluetooth connection at a time**. Ensure no other nearby phone or tablet is currently connected to the scale before pairing.
 - **Proximity:** Ensure your tablet is within **25 ft (8–9 m)** of the scale indicator during pairing.
 - **Power-On Sequence:** After turning the Topcon scale ON, wait **5 seconds** before launching FeedComp. This gives the scale head unit time to initialize and begin broadcasting its Bluetooth advertisement signal.
 - Enable Bluetooth on the scale indicator, pair the scale in your mobile device's **Bluetooth settings**, then connect in FeedComp under **Settings** > **Connect to Scale**.

For an overview of scale setup, including pre-installation checks, see [Configure and Connect the Scale](docId\:yCZP8HFysnbKiOWlTwQoQ).

## Pairing for Loader View (Device to Device)

Loader View requires **two mobile devices** — a mixer device and a loader device — paired to each other via Bluetooth.

- The **mixer device** is the primary phone or tablet mounted near the mixer, connected to the scale.
- The **loader device** is a second phone or tablet carried by the loader operator.

To use Loader View, first pair the two devices together in your device's **Bluetooth settings**, then connect them within FeedComp by going to **Feed** > **Loader View**.
