Batch feedings are ad‑hoc feedings created outside of your dairy’s main feeding schedule. They are used when feed is needed outside normal planning, such as unexpected feedings or one‑off situations.

Batch feedings still use existing recipes and equipment constraints to ensure consistency with your normal feeding operation. These feedings are created and completed from the FeedComp mobile app, allowing feeders to respond quickly while keeping feed data accurate.

### Required Setup

- This feature is only available when you’re using this device for feeding. If you change your mind about using a device for feeding, [log out of the app](docId\:w3eUqOYDx8RmzbHVfAKFn) and select **Yes** or **No** when asked if the device will be used for feeding.
- Before you can begin using FeedComp to feed at your dairy, you must complete the required setup. See [Start Here: Better Feeding Made Simple](docId\:v9LrP06GJnHphYg6TeHXY) to learn more about the required setup order.
- Devices used for feeding must be connected to a scale. See [Configure and Connect the Scale](docId\:yCZP8HFysnbKiOWlTwQoQ) to learn more about connecting to your scale.
- A mixer must be selected before starting a batch feeding as FeedComp needs to know the capacity of the mixer being used. For help, see [Change the Mixer Assigned to a Device](docId\:xpXwbUn3LNeeuL22xQVpW).

### Load the Ingredients for the Mix

:::hint{type="warning"}
**IMPORTANT: **If you want to use both a feeding device and a loading device to monitor and manage loads, [enable Loader View on a loading device](docId\:Jz7z-evo1pFXe8f3DBA5w). Loader View allows you to connect your loading device to your feeding device, so any operations on your feeding device are mirrored on your loading device. When Loader View is enabled on a loading device, you can advance or pause feedings and view real-time feeding details while loading is in progress.
:::

Follow the steps below to load a mix:

If a timer was set for the ingredient, wait for the timer to complete. **NOTE: **If the weight of an ingredient detected by the scale drops below the threshold set for the mixer while mixing a recipe, FeedComp displays an alert that requires attention before adding the next ingredient to the mixer. To set the threshold, see [Create New Equipment](docId\:xpXwbUn3LNeeuL22xQVpW) or [Edit Equipment](docId\:xpXwbUn3LNeeuL22xQVpW). Tap **Acknowledge** to confirm and record the ingredient's actual amount and continue mixing. Acknowledged ingredients are identified with an **ACK** icon :inlineImage[]{src="https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/3h8pSJcGUXEi4HGCCYPTA/e3h2qk6nzCzhW9mJP-1eB_ack.png" alt caption size="10" width="40" height="24"} on the [Feeding History Report](docId\:sNFXayQXWiARjJjnQGD8w).

### Drop the Mix at the Pens

:::hint{type="warning"}
**IMPORTANT: **If you have enabled [Loader View](docId\:Jz7z-evo1pFXe8f3DBA5w) on a loading device, the loading device is automatically disconnected from your device once all of the ingredients are loaded.
:::

Follow the steps below to complete the batch feeding:

1. Once all of the ingredients are added and the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances you to drop at the pen. Or, you can tap `Start Dropping` at the bottom of the screen.
2. Drop the mix at the first pen. You can **Skip** :inlineImage[]{src="https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/3h8pSJcGUXEi4HGCCYPTA/P0OipizLfwrKzxBQkwMko_skip.png" alt caption size="10" width="21" height="20"} or **Ignore** :inlineImage[]{src="https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/3h8pSJcGUXEi4HGCCYPTA/YFBeVk6chwQ75yteCw_CO_ignore.png" alt caption size="10" width="21" height="20"} pens if needed.
3. Once the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances to the next pen. Or, you can tap **Advance this Drop **:inlineImage[]{src="https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/3h8pSJcGUXEi4HGCCYPTA/r6o8_IG6m3ISfFTYos9fa_advance.png" alt caption size="10" width="18" height="18"} to manually move to the next pen. As you drop the mix, the scale weighs the load and FeedComp calculates the percentage complete.
4. Once all of the drops are complete and the progress bar reaches 100%, FeedComp automatically advances. Or, you can tap `Continue` at the bottom of the screen to advance manually.

:::hint{type="warning" indent="1"}
**IMPORTANT: **Before tapping `Continue`, Confirm the feed has been fully dropped. Also, check that the scale reads zero (or your target remaining weight).
:::

5. Tap `View Report Card` at the bottom of the screen to view additional details for the ingredients dropped and pens fed for the batch feeding. The batch feeding is now complete, and FeedComp compiles and presents your batch feeding summary.
