DairyComp is designed to maintain the look and feel of a Windows program while still allowing for fast and convenient data entry and navigation. Though you can use a mouse to accomplish most tasks in DairyComp, you can also use the keyboard (most notably the numeric keypad) in many situations to enter commands and data. An ENTER command, for example, allows for full keyboard entry. The main pick lists (sub‑menus of the major commands) allow you to select options either with the mouse or by using the numeric keypad, followed by pressing **Enter** on the keyboard. 

Some dialog boxes, such as those found in the SETUP and ALTER windows, require a mouse to click check boxes or select entry fields. In most cases, however, you can:

- Move between fields either with **Enter** or **Tab**
- Select buttons with **Enter**
- Exit pop-up windows with **Escape**

If you find yourself unable to progress on a page in DairyComp, the **Esc** key is a good way to restart your navigation efforts.
