<font color="#67854E">**Question**</font>: How do I find which ID numbers I haven't used yet in DairyComp?

<font color="#67854E">**Answer**</font>: The Usable IDs feature allows you to search for available (i.e., unassigned) animal ID numbers. Follow the steps below to learn how to use the Usable IDs feature:

1. In the command line, enter `CHKFILE\1` to open the Usable IDs window.
2. Click the **Add Range** button in the top-right of the window.
3. In the new CHKFILE window, type the ID number you want to serve as the start of your search, then click **OK**.

4. In the updated CHKFILE window, type the final ID number in the search range, then click **OK**.
   The Usable IDs window updates with the number of available IDs in the Counts column.
5. Repeat the steps above to include additional ranges as needed.
6. Click **Done**.

7. In the Usable ID Report window, select a print option, the upload option, or exit.
